What is VDI?

Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI) lets your employees access their full workstation from any device and any location, via a secure connection. The entire environment — applications, data, settings — is hosted on servers in Switzerland, not on the local device.

At AlpineDC, the VDI solution is built on Parallels RAS, a proven platform for small and medium-sized teams, hosted in our Swiss datacenters. It adapts to the needs of SMEs without an internal IT department as well as to companies wishing to centralise and secure access to their work environment.

  • Integration with existing systems — the solution can rely on your Active Directory, business applications and existing network infrastructure.

Frequently asked questions about VDI

What is Parallels RAS?

Parallels RAS (Remote Application Server) is an application and desktop virtualisation platform designed for SMEs. It lets you publish Windows applications and full desktops accessible from any device.

Do we need to replace all existing workstations?

No. The VDI solution works from existing devices running Windows, macOS or Linux. AlpineDC can also provide thin clients or pre-configured devices if you want to refresh your fleet.

What Internet connection is needed for VDI?

A standard connection is sufficient for remote VPN access. For main sites, AlpineDC can deploy a dedicated fibre line to guarantee optimal performance independent of the public Internet.

Does the data stay in Switzerland?

Yes. The infrastructure is hosted exclusively in our Swiss datacenters. Your data does not leave Switzerland.

Can several connection modes be combined?

Yes. A single company can use a dedicated fibre line at headquarters and a remote VPN for home or mobile workers — the modes can be combined to match your needs.

Is the solution suitable for small teams?

Yes. Parallels RAS is particularly well suited to small and medium-sized teams. There is no minimum user count — the scope is defined according to your actual needs.
